TIME FACTS & FIGURES Multitasking lowers productivity by as much as 40%, only 2% of people can successfully do more than one thing at a time. The average person is interrupted every 8 minutes. The average interruption takes 5 minutes to deal with. About 29% of workers skip lunch and keep working through (according to a study from the United States). A 15-minute break after every focused 90-minute work sprint improves productivity and performance. Stress is the biggest work-related health hazard in the dental laboratory according to 64% of technicians, followed by systemic reactions (50.8%) and musculoskeletal problems in the neck and hands (43.2%) (according to a study from Pakistan). Stressed out? Your customers probably are as well: 32% of dentists see stress as main mental health issue at work. Avoid this by placing it higher.Place the plaster vacuum mixer close to the drainpipe. You will avoid many short walks.A wide working area minimizes errors. Damaging or breaking a practice work means calling the dentist to ask for information, or even elaborating an incorrect work that must be redone.Pour the model with a comfortable and fast system, so that several sizes can be set at a time.Dam the models with wax so that you do not have to cut them and, particularly, so that you do not have to empty the palates.The cleaner the modelling, the more time you save in elaborating the final denture. When setting up a silicone matrix, clean the denture teeth carefully to remove the wax. Otherwise, you will have to drill the traces away later, which could alter the tooth’s structure and aesthetic appearance. To set up full dentures in a time-efficient way, start with the upper jaw because this is the part that does not move in the mouth. Then you have the basic of the bite from which you can proceed to the lower jaw.To speed up set-up, use a tooth line that enables easy interlocking and fast positioning: with the new delara teeth, set-up takes me 25 minutes, and less than an hour including waxing.If your ceramic mass fell dry just reblend it with aqua dest-modelling liquid to avoid undesired changes in shade and time-consuming corrections.To minimize errors, differentiate between the area for “work recep-tion” and the “packaging area for shipments”.Group similar works together or group them by delivery date.

SLA LASER VS. DLP 3D printing enables a technician to manufacture polymer- based dental applications automatically. Which printing technique suits laboratory requirements best? There are various 3D printing technologies available. How- ever, only stereolithography (SLA), with its two main tech- niques SLA Laser (mostly just referred to as SLA) and SLA Digital Light Processing (DLP), offers the range of applica- tions that is needed in the laboratory. ROUND 1: SPEED SLA works on one individual pixel at a time. DLP illuminates the full layer, working on all pixels simultaneously. Result: Build speeds are much faster with DLP than with SLA. Most prints are finished in less than one hour. ROUND 2: ACCURACY SLA Laser moves continuously over the layer, with a diameter of typically 140 µm. DLP creates images from square pixels with a width of 53 µm – about 2.6 times smaller than a typical laser diameter. Result: SLA Laser generates fewer edges but cannot make fine details. ROUND 3: PROFITABILITY SLA Laser is available for a lower price than DLP or other printing technologies. DLP pays off fast since its extremely high build speeds reduce the hourly rate. Result: In the long run, DLP is the more profitable choice. Both DLP and SLA score well with low material consumption and small investments compared to other CAM technologies. LESSON LEARNT Both techniques are very effective for 3D printing. Where detail accuracy, time and profitability are more important, a DLP printer is the better choice. HOW TO PRINT A MODEL TIME-SAVING AND PRECISE A precise model is key in prosthetics, yet fabricating it is often seen as tedious task. 3D printing offers a time- and material- saving alternative. This step-by-step instruction shows how dental models are easily made with cara Print 4.0. 1 In the CAD software, you first define the model limitation and then the parameters of the model base. The shape of the dies and the fit parameters can be individually adapted. A label can be added. The para- meters of the material to be printed are adjusted to hollow out the model. At this point, it is crucial that the parameters are matching with the used material. Then, the export as a .stl file can start. The constructed model is imported into the cara Print CAM software with all dies. Elements are positioned directly on the building platform, without touching each other. To guarantee an optimal fit, place the dies next to the model in the same orientation they would have when sitting in the cavities. 2 3 For a secure contact with the building platform, the model and all dies are positioned with the same minus value in the Z axis. The print data is imported to the printer via USB stick or network. The material and the thickness of the layers are selected on the printer. 5 The material tray must be clean and checked according to the instructions for use. HeraCeram Saphir comes equipped with an opaque paste that offers complete opacity, with extremely thin layers of 60 to 100 µm. Thanks to its enhanced masking and bonding properties, the opaque can be applied more quickly, using fewer layers. This saves time and gives the technician more space to work with. While handling is just as straightforward as with the established HeraCeram ceramics, Saphir differs considerably in terms of its optical properties. As a result, the product supports the handcrafting skills and talent of dental technicians more effectively – regardless of how expe- rienced they are. For the less experienced “Why I’m so relaxed?
